Goodbye Clovis, Hello Bachmanville

So excited to spend this weekend in Irvine with Michelle and the Bachmans.
Being in one of my favorite places with some of my favorite people?
Now THAT is what I call awesome.

HAPPY SPRING BREAK!

Differentiations and Recommendations

For me, the way I differentiate between a so-so novel and a great novel is by how much it crosses my mind after I have finished it. Don’t get me wrong - I think that being able to write a novel and have it published is a great achievement in itself.

But that’s the beauty of reading, isn’t it?
Two people can read the same book differently. They can take away different ideas, learn different things, attach themselves to sentences, words, chapters, and characters for different reasons, attribute meaning through their different experiences in life. Sure, you may see them laugh and cry during the same points; but I bet if you asked them to share why they are responding that way, you’d get completely different answers.

I just finished The Last Summer (of You & Me) by Anne Brashares and I can safely say that it will cross my mind for years to come.

I have a deep appreciation for books that challenge the way I think.  I found myself relating to the three main characters so often while reading, paralleling their heartache, happiness, and life-changing moments with my real-life experiences. And while I could relate to their feelings, I was challenged with how these characters responded to those feelings - how they dealt with them. This is the second book that I have read by Brashares that has done this to me (the first being My Name is Memory…read it!) and I am thankful for it.

I highly recommend this book and author to you.

Wanderlust

I want to walk on new streets.
I want to experience new places.
I want to photograph new sceneries.
I want to smell new aromas.
I want to taste new foods.
I want to speak new languages.
I want to create new experiences.
I want to laugh at new things.
I want to get lost in new cities.
I want to discover new places.

I want to travel so badly.
I hope that in the near future, I will be able to do some of those things.

Wanderlust is what is keeping me awake, tonight.

“Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep, feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.” —Zooey Deschanel (via wordslikevines)

Stressed spelled backwards is desserts.

I have been so stressed, lately.
Stressed about school (mostly biology). Stressed about money (budgeting is harder than I thought it would be). Stressed about being sick (a slight head cold really bothers me). Stressed about the future. Stressed about friends. Stressed about family. Just STRESSED.

It’s so easy for me to stress out and worry.
It’s so easy for my mind to drift to worst case scenarios.

But today, I was reminded that God is more able to handle stress and worry than I’ll ever be. He’s pretty great at reminding me of that.

What’s the point of stressing when I can be content? What’s the point of worrying when I can take comfort in knowing that God has a plan that’s infinitely better than my own?

As I type this, I’m eating a chocolate cupcake with a smile on my face…because “stressed” spelled backwards is “desserts.”
